Tanglewood Trail
This project is a collaboration between the City of Whitesburg, CEDIK, CANE Kitchen, Appalashop, and Letcher County Tourism. Tanglewood Trail is a pedestrian and bike trail traveling mostly along an abandoned railway bed and parallel with the Kentucky River in Whitesburg. The downtown section of Tanglewood Trail continues alongside the river bank through a residential area until it enters downtown Whitesburg via East Main Street and connects to the existing walking and biking trail to West Whitesburg.
The trail presents opportunities for displaying public art and educating visitors about the history and ecology of the area and enables pedestrians to safely access key destinations within the community. The trail passes by the farmers market, parks, retail businesses, restaurants, the veterans’ memorial museum and Whitesburg’s very first legal moonshine distillery, Kentucky Mist.
The trail extends approximately five miles. A long-term goal is for the trail to connect to the Pine Mountain Trail.
